What will you do, Zimbabwe?

We've just returned from six days in Zimbabwe. And it's true ... Zimbabwe is a "Failed State". But. The people we met have not failed. The Zimbabweans were some of the kindest, most honorable human beings we've encountered on our many journeys.

In Hwange National Park, where once existed one of the gems of the great African national parks, the rangers... thin, wary and hard from malnutrition ... men and women truly living off the bone .... tend the camps and make their daily rounds with ancient AK-47's to guard the elephants and rhinos from poachers. Imagine this ... these rangers and attendants tried their hardest to make us feel comfortable .... and welcome in our visit. We wanted to cry, to tear our hair out at the extreme tragedy and deep irony of this absurd situation. It nearly overcame us. We have not fully witnessed the crime of poverty, nor nobility of the human spirit until Zimbabwe.

We shall not forget it.

Tuesday, we'll begin our journey through Chobe to Moremi then Maun. Likely, we'll be in Botswana a month or more. Botswana is a magnifient place .... it's very hot and dry, too. We're both getting tan and tough. Thankfully, we've no sicknesses to report.
